The OHS Marching Band & Auxiliary are Busy Bees all summer long!
The award winning Oxnard High School Marching Band and Auxiliary had a very busy summer! The summer started off with the OHS Drum line serving as the official drum line for the Dallas Cowboys Training Camp for the second year in a row!
This year's drum majors Jonathan Vanlandingham and Kristian Harvout attended Drum Major Camp at UCSB. The section leaders attended Leadership Camp at Chapman University.
Band Camp started in July, welcoming incoming freshman to the wonderful world of Marching Band and Auxiliary. Band Camp is not for the faint of heart....it was an all day affair, starting at 9:00am, ending at 5:00pm in the evening. The day was spent learning new music, perfecting drills and field show movements and exercising. It is both a mental and physical challenge for all the students who participated in band camp. The students also developed new relationships and strengthened existing ones. Many of our alumni returned to band camp to provide guidance and leadership. OHS is blessed with a rich legacy of leaders and musicians.
In addition to the daily rigors of band camp, the Marching Band And Auxiliary participated in the Santa Barbara Fiesta Days Parade and the Ventura County Fair Parade.
Band camp ended with an amazing concert and potluck attended by band and auxiliary members and their families. But wait, there is more...the first major fundraiser for the summer was our summer car wash. Once again, these "busy bees" showed what they are made of, washing cars from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Despite the hard work, this group always manages to have a great time. Finally, this hard working group of students will welcome faculty and staff of the School District at the High School District Meeting at Pacifica High School on August 27, 2013 at 7:00am!
It was a VERY busy summer for this industrious group of students (and their parents) lead by the one and only Fundi Legohn, OHS Band Director. It is safe to say, the OHS Marching Band and Auxiliary are ready for the new school year beginning on August 28th...but there is no time to rest...their first practice for the year is August 29th!
